As in all wars, many innocent people suffered the violence of the Rogue Indian Wars in Southern Oregon between 1852 and 1856. Mary Ann Harris and her daughter found themselves in the midst of a raid in 1855. Indian warriors, seeking revenge for a Table Rock Indian village massacre by U.S. soldiers, began killing pioneer families and burning their homes.
